From the Author
I noticed from my own experience, and from dealing with many home businesses as a business adviser, that home workers tend to be very hard on themselves. We assume that any difficulties we face are personal failings, that we lack discipline, are easily distracted and prone to procrastination. But the fact is that working in the same place as you live creates its own challenges, and I want to make home workers aware of this and offer some solutions.

I spoke to more than 50 home workers all over the country, in both rural and city locations, in all kinds of industries, from sales to B&B, from bookkeepers to craftsmen, and asked about the challenges they had faced, their successes and failures.

They were all incredibly open about the pros and cons of home working and gave me some great stories for the book.

What became evident is that different people find different solutions to the same problem, and sometimes quite the opposite solution! The idea behind the book is to offer examples for readers to try out so they can find the best options for their particular circumstances.

If readers come away feeling better and saying ‘Oh, thank goodness it’s not just me who feels like that’, then I’ll be happy.

Author Judy Heminsley has worked from home for 20 years, both as an employee and running her own business, so she’s well-acquainted with its advantages and pitfalls.
